Financial Transparency: Commissions & Payouts
At Mercayle Gallery, we believe that an equitable, transparent financial structure is fundamental to a sustainable creative practice. This guide outlines how sales are divided, when funds are released to your studio, and how to maintain tax compliance within your dashboard.
The 55/35/10 Structural Split
Every artwork transaction processed through the gallery storefront is split according to a rigid, transparent allocation designed to support both individual artists and our collective community:
55% — The Artist Share: The clear majority of the retail list price goes directly to you, the creator, to cover your labor, studio space, and material investments.
35% — The Gallery Operations: This portion is retained by Mercayle Gallery to fund global collector acquisition, targeted digital marketing campaigns, solo exhibition curation, site overhead, and customer service management.
10% — The Artist Aid Fund: Rather than treating this as extra gallery profit, this 10% allocation is deposited directly into a community mutual-aid pool. This fund is used entirely to finance independent creator grants, residency stipends, and emergency relief programs for our roster.
Payout Timelines & Reconciliation
To protect both the gallery and the artist from transaction disputes or transit issues, payouts follow a structured verification window.
The 14-Day Dispersal Window: Payout processing triggers automatically 7-14 days after the carrier confirms successful delivery to the collector's address. This window accounts for standard transit delivery verifications and ensures the collector has received the artwork in pristine condition.
Tracking Status: You can track your upcoming, unsettled sales directly on your main dashboard under the Pending Payouts balance card. Once the 14-day hold clears, the funds move into your available balance for immediate bank distribution.
Payment Methods: Digital payouts are processed securely via direct bank transfer (ACH) or international wire, depending on the configurations saved to your profile.
Tax Compliance & Document Requirements
Before any pending funds can be officially transferred out of the gallery treasury to your account, you must have an active, verified tax profile on file.
Domestic Artists (US): A fully completed and signed W-9 Form must be securely uploaded through your dashboard profile settings.
International Artists: Artists operating outside of the United States must submit a verified W-8BEN Form to satisfy international withholding regulations.
Annual Reporting: Mercayle Gallery issues standard 1099-NEC forms by January 31st of each calendar year to all eligible artists who surpass IRS payout thresholds during the preceding fiscal year.
